NATIONAL AWARDS RECIPIENTS

The Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development introduced the scheme of National Awards to teachers in 1958-59, for raising their prestige and giving public recognition to their meritorious services in Primary, Middle and Higher Secondary schools. Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan recommends the names of six teachers from the year 2002 for this award.

Keeping in view the outstanding contribution of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan in the field of education, Hon'ble Human Resource Development Minister has increased the number of National Awards for teachers of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan from six to sixteen in the following categories:

  1. Primary Teachers - 06 Awards
  2. Secondary / Senior Secondary Teachers (including Principals) - 06 Awards
  3. Special Awards to teachers (including Principals) with disabilities or engaged in promoting integrated education of children with disabilities - 02 Awards.
  4. Special category awards for Physically Handicapped Primary Teachers - 02 Awards

Main considerations guiding the selection of teachers are:

  1. Teacher's reputation in the Vidyalaya and local community.
  2. Teacher's academic efficiency and desire for its improvement.
  3. Teacher's genuine interest in and love for children, and
  4. Teacher's involvement in the social life of the community.
  5. The selection of candidates for National Awards is done by committees consisting of Educationists and Officers of KVS at the following levels:

    1. Identification at the Vidyalaya level
    2. Selection at the Regional level
    3. Final selection at the National level.

    Sh.P.Raghvendra Rao, Principal, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Ashok Nagar, Chennai

    Sh.P.Raghvendra Rao started his career as PGT(English) in KVS in July 1972. He takes keen interest in the all round development of the personalities of the students and variety of activities are organised to achieve this aim through a well planned calendar of activities like athletic meets, testing camps and rallies for Scouts and Guides, literary and academic competitions at different levels. His rapport with the members in the PTA and VMC meetings can be rated as exemplary. Sri Rao is a good administrator having team building spirit. He is soft spoken, gentle and a role model for teachers and students.

    Smt.Rita Sengupta, TGT(English), Kendriya Vidyalaya BEML Nagar, Kolar

    Smt.Rita Sen Gupta is a devoted teacher whose aim is to build up citizens with good character. A great believer in patriotism, she won laurels for the programmes undertaken to celebrate the golden years of Indian independence and seven of her students were special achievers. She always stresses on role play, prayers, regional group dances celebrating every Indian festival. An excellent dancer and an announcer for Yuv Vani, she does a lot for organising various cultural programmes at the Vidyalaya as well as KVS level. Her students have shown 100% result at the school as well as the board level. She has written a number of poems and articles for inculcating values among the students.

    Ms. Sushma Chouhan ‘Kiran’ PRT, Kendriya Vidyalaya AFS, Arjungarh (now Head Mistress, Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1, AFS Jodhpur

    Smt.Sushma Chouhan has rendered 27 years of service in Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. She is an exceptional teacher having sound knowledge of her subject. She has extraordinary teaching skills. She is a very dynamic, cheerful and cooperative teacher. She incorporates the latest teaching methodologies and innovative practices in her teaching. She takes very good care of her students and is admired by them.

    Sh.K.Sankaran, Drawing Teacher (Retd.), Kendriya Vidyalaya Minambakkam, Chennai

    Sh.K.Sankaran, Drawing Teacher(Retd.), Kendriya Vidyalaya Minambakkam, Chennai has an excellent artistic perception and his classes are a treat to the students. He motivates and inspires them to develop skills in drawing and painting as well as a taste for good art. To keep their interest level high, Sh.K.Sankaran regularly organises painting exhibitions and competitions and takes the students out to participate in on-the-spot painting competitions organised by different agencies. As an astute pedagogue he was involved in the task of designing the art component of the in-service courses for PRTs, by developing both the syllabus and the course material for classes I to VIII and giving demonstration classes to teachers on the techniques of using Art across the curriculum.

    Sh.S.A.Nair, Principal, Kendriya Vidyalaya Malleswaram

    Sh.S.A.Nair has risen from the rank of a Primary Teacher in 1966 to a Principal of distinction. He has a tremendous willpower to succeed and symbolizes consistency, proficiency and perfection. Creativity and innovation is his hallmark. He has promoted excellence in the teachers in his school and took pride in his team. He does not compromise with quality, efficiency and effectiveness. He has promoted the use of technology in classrooms in his school. His school showcases the best practices of innovation in education and is a centre of many workshops, seminars, in-service courses and other educational events of Regional as well as National level.

    Sh.R.S.Ramanujam, PGT(Eng.), Kendriya Vidyalaya No.2, Tambaram, Chennai (now Principal, Kendriya Vidyalaya, New Bongaigaon)

    Sh.R.S.Ramanujam, PGT (English) has put in a long service of 30 years in KVS. He worked as PRT for six years, TGT(English) for eight years and PGT(English) for 15 years. Throughout his service as a teacher he served with dedication and took care of the children of all ability groups namely the slow learners, the average and the gifted. As an English teacher, he has shown immense interest in encouraging the creativity in children through literary activities such as debate, panel discussion, seminar, language group, radio show, dramatization, role play and book review etc. He is adept in preparing graded exercises for the benefit of slow learners. His interest in co-curricular activities has helped many a children. He is also a writer of articles on English Language Teaching which are very much beneficial to the students.

    Ms. Sangeeta Bhatnagar, PRT, Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1, Ambala

    Ms.Sangeeta Bhatnagar has been teaching since 1985. She tries to develop the personality of the children under her care through co-curricular activities, various experiments and innovations. She makes her teaching not only form head to head but also from heart to heart. She believes in the education which is transformation oriented and not only information oriented. She has done a number of experiments and innovations in the field of primary education such as dramatization, role of music in teaching and puppetry for education. Teaching of spellings through games has greatly helped in strengthening the primary education. She is the Education co-ordinator of Haryana of Sri Satya Sai Sewa Organisation of Haryana and Chandigarh. She had been honoured by Netraheen Jagriti Sangh, Haryana for her outstanding contribution to the cause of blind people.

    Sh.Jagdish Sawarkar, PRT, Kendriya Vidyalaya VSN Nagpur

    Sh.Jagdish Sawarkar joined KVS in 1979. He has contributed his best to the Vidyalaya, the Sangathan and the community by his selfless, dedicated and untiring work. He is a meritorious and devoted teacher who believes in activity based teaching as well as in modern strategies and devices of teaching. His contribution to the National Literacy Mission in tribal area has been appreciated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. He rendered his services for ‘Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samiti’ as Kushal Prashikshak and trained the teachers and workers for National Literacy Mission. He has many poems, slogans and articles to his credit.

    Sh.Ganesh Prasad, Drawing Teacher, Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1, Delhi Cantt.

    Sh.Ganesh Prasad joined KVS in 1976. He is a post graduate in Arts and Handicrafts from Vishwa Bharti University, Shantiniketan, West Bengal. Throughout his career he has been generating a love for Art among his students. Widely respected and admired by the teaching fraternity, he has been a Resource Person in a number of workshops on Visual and Performing Arts. He has earned great regard and love from students as well as parents. He has been associated with NSS activities in the school. He has prepared excellent sculptures of fibre glass some of which are adorning the walls of KVS(Hqrs.) building.

    Sh.D.B.Yadav, PGT(Biology), Kendriya Vidyalaya No.6, Jaipur

    Sh.D.B.Yadav, PGT(Bio.) has rendered 26 years of service in Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. He is an exceptional teacher and has sound knowledge of his subject with extraordinary teaching skills. He has a long history of producing cent-percent as well as qualitative results in board classes. He is a very dynamic, cheerful and fully cooperative teacher. He takes up any responsibility entrusted to him with full interest, dedication and enthusiasm. He has a very strong feeling of belongingness to the profession as well as to the institution. He has devoted a significant part of his life to the education and development of student community. He makes full use of teaching aids in developing his lessons and Science Projects guided by him have been recognised at KVS National level.

    Smt. Seema Dasgupta, TGT(English)c, Kendriya Vidyalaya Barrackpore (Army)

    Smt.Seema Dasgupta joined the KVS in1985. She is a skilful teacher with pleasing personality and active habits of a good organiser. She acts as a Guardian Angel for the students. She has successfully used the methodologies for incorporating a cultural component in school curriculum. She received the CCRT Teachers’ Award 1996 from the President of India for her outstanding contribution in the field of linking education with culture. She has worked as Educational Consultant to Ed CIL Her innovative teaching methods have made her the Key Resource Person of CBSE.

    Smt. Renu Vaish, TGT(Sc.), Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1, Ajmer

    Smt.Renu Vaish, TGT(Bio.) has put in about seventeen years of service in Kendriya Vidyaaya Sangathan. She has to her credit, a proven academic record of results in Board examinations. She has an inborn and inherent love for children which is an essential part of her personal and professional life. She is a devoted, dedicated and diligent teacher with capabilities full of endeavour, enthusiasm and energy. She is a good teacher who likes to take her duties as a challenge and uses latest teaching methods and innovative practices to achieve her goal.

    Smt. B.V.Atit, PRT, Kendriya Vidyalaya Mehsana (now Head Mistress, Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1, Ahmedabad)

    Smt.B.V.Atit has been working as PRT since July 1978. Her love for the profession of teaching has made her popular among the students, parents and community at large. Her acceptance of any role required to be performed for development of children makes her a distinguished and effective teacher. Her command over methodology of teaching-learning process, strengthening of Primary Education and Grading System got her the opportunity to act as Resource Person in the in-service courses for PRTs. She is a devoted teacher who is constantly making an effort to improve the quality of learning by helping the learners.

    Mohd. Shakil, Drawing Teacher, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow.

    Mohd. Shakil has worked incessantly for the unity and integrity of the country through his work. His paintings have got place of prominence not only at the Prime Minister’s House and the Vidhan Sabha of U.P. but these can also be seen abroad in the countries like Russia, Mauritius and San-Fransisco. His students have won national and international prizes under his guidance. He has painted more than 3000 figures of Ganesh and has done an extraordinary work on Tugra paintings. The walls of the KVS building are adorned by the murals depicting the themes of Education and World Peace made by him. He feels that Art should not just portray beauty but should be capable of portraying the serious issues beautifully.

    Dr.(Smt.) Sheel Bhusan, PGT (Hindi), Kendriya Vidyalaya, AFS, Bawana, New Delhi.

    Dr.(Smt.) Sheel Bhusan is totally devoted to the progress and development of the Hindi language. She was awrded Ph.D. for her thesis ‘Agyeya aur Dhramvir Bharti ke kavya shilp ka tulnatmak adhyayan’. Her articles are regularly published in several newspapers and magazines. The readers find her poems inspiring. She was awarded by the ‘Sahastrabdi Vishwa Hindi Sammelan’ in the year 2000 for her contribution to the cause popularizing Hindi. She believes that every work done with honesty is great, respectful and equivalent to worship.

    Smt.G.Bhanumathy, TGT(Bio.), Kendriya Vidyalaya, Ashok Nagar, Chennai.

    Smt.Bhanumathy Govindarajan is a Science Teacher with a difference. She employs appropriate aids and techniques to make her teaching interesting. She encourages the children to innovate and experiment. Recipient of the NCERT award, she pays individual attention towards the below average children, prepares additional assignments and conducts special classes. Whatever work is assigned to her she does it with a sense of enthusiasm and brings excellence to the job. With her pleasant manners, cheerful disposition and helpful nature, she is popular among the students, staff and parents.

    Smt. Kamal Peter, TGT(Science), Kendriya Vidyalaya, Malleswaram, Bangalore.

    Smt. Kamal Peter is a highly motivated and inspired teacher who strives for quality in all spheres. Her innovation and creativity make a magical impact on the students. She adopts an exploratory and participatory approach to teaching. She has made brilliant integration of technology in education. She is the recipient of NCERT award twice, INTEL award, Rotary Vocational Excellence award and Gurupuruskar by Jaycees Silicon City. She was nominated a member of the NCERT General Council in 2001. She is a member of the Educational Technology Focus Group for National Curriculum Framework Review 2005. Cheerfulness, humility and concern for others are her high points.

    Smt. Aloka Mathur, PRT, Kendriya Vidyalaya, AFS Yelahanka, Bangalore.

    Smt. Aloka Mathur makes a sincere effort to know the problems of under achievers and administers the remedial techniques developed by her for improving their performance level so that there are no drop outs at the later stages. She has received NCERT National Award for Innovative Teaching Techniques twice in the years 1996 & 1999 for her innovative experiments and practices and for her new experimental approach in teaching EVS to classes I and II. She has brought out two workbooks in EVS for classes I & II which have been highly appreciated by the teachers.
