Intel and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan

Initiatives to Progress

Global economic and social trends over the past few decades have had profound implications on educational reform and the use of technology in schools. The pervasiveness of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) have changed the way people live and made it necessary for educational systems across India to reinvent teaching and learning to prepare students with 21st century skills.

Perceiving this need for change and leading the movement for inculcating 21st century skills in the curriculum, the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) joined hands with Intel and signed an MOU with the objective of:

Preparing the students for the emerging knowledge society

  1. Motivating Students and Teachers for Global Competition
  2. Improving Conceptual Understanding and Developing Constructivist skills through the use of multimedia and interactive web and applications
  3. Helping students gain Higher Order Thinking Skills through Research, Communication and Productivity Strategies and Tools and Assessments.

Intel and KVS organized several other ventures to bring about a dedicated change in education across India.

Leadership Forums

Principals play a crucial role in providing the necessary support and learning opportunities to improve teaching practices and raise student performance. In 2006, Intel and KVS conducted their first Principal Leadership. 532 Principals of Kendriya Vidyalayas participated in Forums at different KV locations and collaborated on discussions to encourage integration of technology into classrooms, aimed at increase levels of student learning.

Helping students gain Higher Order Thinking Skills through Research, Communication and Productivity Strategies and Tools and Assessments. Intel and KVS organized several other ventures to bring about a dedicated change in education across India.

Empowering Subject & ICT Teachers

During the In-Service training of KV teachers in year 2007, Intel was called in to train the subject teachers on Intel® Teach Essentials Course for effective integration of Technology into their classroom teaching. Along with it, ICT teachers of KVS were also trained on Intel® Teach Skills for Success Course for building Digital Literacy, Critical Thinking and Collaboration among the students of Class 6 and 7. To facilitate technology integration for students ‘Technology and Community’ and ‘Technology at Work’ are being implemented with the students of Class 6 and 7 as their formal textbooks. A second phase of training was conducted in 15 Kendriya Vidyalayas at 5 locations across the country in the 2nd week of April’08. The teachers participated in the Training Program enthusiastically and developed projects that not only softened the subject boundaries but also integrated technology judiciously.

The next milestone in the history of association of Intel and KVS was the Intel® Teach Essentials Online Course. A total of 505 teachers participated in a professional development course infused with research-based approaches to integrate technology into the classroom.

During the Face-to-Face session of training, teachers explored the possibilities of current web-based collaborative technologies and other software applications before selecting the most appropriate tools to support student learning in their unit design. A blog was created during the trainings at each location sharing the participant’s reflections and comments/suggestions on the Training Course.
